FAQ

All of A-1 semen is from stallion stations and farms in Germany. Semen must be ordered by our shipping deadline and pre-paid.

Q. Once I have ordered, how long do I have to wait for delivery?

A. It takes 2 to 4 weeks for an order to return back to the USA from Germany. Once it is in the US it can be over nighted to you.

Q. What is a dose of semen?

A. A dose of semen is the amount of semen it takes to impregnate a mare in one cycle. The minimum amount of semen is 500 million. Most farms provide more than that. Semen is packaged in straws. The amount of straws in a dose can vary from 1 large straw to 10 .05 straws. Some straws hold 250 million sperm while others may only hold 75 million.

Q. How do I know I am getting semen from the stallion of my choice?

A. Straws have the stallions name and ID # on them. You will also receive DNA papers on the stallion you ordered to verify parentage.

Q. What if I buy 2 doses and my mare settles on the first cycle?

A. You can save the other dose for another year, sell it, or use it on an extra mare. We will issue a stallion certificate on both mares.

Q. How long can I keep frozen semen?

A. Indefinitely, if properly stored.

Q. How do I register my foal?

A. Foals are registered in the registry of their dam. Check with your registry before breeding to make sure your stallion choice is approved. Each registry has it’s own agenda for stallion approval. AHS accepts most Hanoverian stallions, some Oldenburg and Trakehners. RPSI accepts all stallions on our roster. ISR/Oldenburg accepts most of the stallions on our roster as long as their overall score is 120 or above. ATA accepts only Trakehners.

Q. How do I get a stallion certificate?

A. We will send a certificate for each pregnancy.

Q. What is the conception rate for frozen semen?

A. The overall conception rate for frozen if the same as fresh cooled – 75%.

Q. Is there a live foal guarantee?

A. No, we buy the semen with no live foal guarantee and that’s how we sell it to you.

Q. What is good post thaw motility?

A. Post thaw motility is the number of normal live sperm moving in the right direction. A 30% motility is the industry standard. Conceptions have been achieved with less. Most of the stallions on our roster have between 35% to 85% motility. Call for information on the stallion you are interested in.

Q. Is there anything I can do to increase the chance of my mare getting pregnant?

A. Yes, buy enough semen from a stallion that freezes well. Use a mare that is in good reproductive health. Select a reproductive vet that is familiar with frozen semen and celebrates a high conception rate.

Q. Should I insure my domestic shipment?

A. Yes, It’s inexpensive and best not to take chances.
